‘One Corner’ is bigger than all Black Sherif songs globally - Patapaa claims

Patapaa claims ‘One Corner’ is bigger than all Black Sherif songs globally

Ghanaian musician Patapaa has sparked debate after claiming that his viral hit One Corner has had more international impact than any song by Black Sherif.

Speaking on the Savage Room podcast on April 29, 2025, Patapaa said Black Sherif’s fame is mostly limited to Nigeria due to his deal with Empire Records.

“Black Sherif is with Empire, so his music is mostly known in Nigeria,” Patapaa said. “I’m a global artiste. Which of his songs has really gone worldwide? Even One Corner, which I did with Kawoula, is bigger.”

He went further to say Black Sherif is now seen more as a Nigerian act than a Ghanaian one, adding that many Ghanaians have stopped connecting with his music after the early buzz faded.

Patapaa also praised One Corner’s success, saying the song’s organic rise to fame reached beyond Africa without paid promotion. He pointed to Nigerian TikTok influencer Peller, who came to Ghana because of the track’s popularity.

“I didn’t pay Peller anything. He made a video because the song was already viral—even in Europe,” he said.

According to Patapaa, it was Shatta Wale who invited Peller to Ghana during the One Corner craze. He concluded by stating that Nigerian support for Ghanaian music is rare, except in the case of artists like VIP—and himself.
