Romelu Lukaku’s composed penalty handed Napoli a crucial win, ending Juventus’ unbeaten start to the Serie A season under new coach Thiago Motta.
Juventus struck first, with debutant Randal Kolo Muani finding the net to give the visitors an early lead. However, league leaders Napoli responded before halftime, thanks to Frank Anguissa’s towering header—his 10th goal for the club in 140 appearances.
The decisive moment came 20 minutes from full time when Juventus defender Manuel Locatelli brought down former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay inside the box. Lukaku, who previously came close to joining Juventus in 2023, confidently stepped up and sent goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio the wrong way to score his ninth goal of the campaign.
The victory solidifies Napoli’s position at the top of the Serie A table, extending their lead over second-placed Inter Milan to six points, though Inter has two games in hand.
Juventus, meanwhile, drops to fifth in the standings. They now sit 16 points behind Napoli and trail Lazio, who occupy the final Champions League spot, by two points.
Napoli’s triumph further asserts their dominance this season, while Juventus faces questions after their unbeaten run was halted.
