Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has confirmed his readiness to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29, to provide evidence for his allegations that the committee solicited bribes from ministerial nominees in exchange for approval.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Barker-Vormawor stated, “I am prepared to engage with the committee tomorrow. This is how we strengthen democracy.” His comments reflect confidence in the accountability process.
Barker-Vormawor had earlier accused members of the committee of demanding payments from nominees seeking approval for their ministerial positions, sparking widespread debate.
In response, Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, categorically denied the claims during a press conference on Tuesday, January 28, calling them unfounded. He emphasized that no committee member had participated in such misconduct.
“To ensure this matter is addressed transparently, I have instructed the Clerk of the Committee to formally invite Mr. Barker-Vormawor to appear before us tomorrow. He must substantiate his claims, or we will take the necessary legal action,” Mr. Ahiafor stated.
Barker-Vormawor’s upcoming appearance has added tension to proceedings in Parliament, with some Minority members calling for a temporary halt to the vetting process. They argue that the integrity of the Appointments Committee has been called into question and believe the allegations must be resolved before proceedings can continue.
