The Appointments Committee of Parliament has called on political activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor to appear before them and substantiate his claims of bribery against its members.
Barker-Vormawor has alleged that committee members have been receiving payments from ministerial nominees in exchange for approving their appointments. In response, the Chairman of the Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, who also represents Akatsi South, has strongly denied these allegations, describing them as unfounded and challenging Barker-Vormawor to provide evidence to support his claims.
Mr. Ahiafor instructed the Clerk of the Committee to formally summon Barker-Vormawor to appear before the committee to defend his accusations. The political activist is expected to appear on Wednesday, January 29.
“I am directing the Clerk to invite him tomorrow to provide proof of his allegations or face the necessary legal consequences,” Ahiafor stated. He reiterated the importance of preserving the credibility and integrity of the Appointments Committee.
In the meantime, Minority members of the committee are calling for the suspension of the committee’s activities until the issue is fully resolved. They stressed that their reputation as lawmakers is at stake and that they cannot afford to ignore such serious claims.
