Manchester United winger Antony has completed a loan move to La Liga side Real Betis, where he will remain until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old Brazilian, who joined United from Ajax in a high-profile £81.3m deal in August 2022, is the club’s second most expensive signing after Paul Pogba. Antony has managed 12 goals in 96 appearances during his time at Old Trafford but has found the net only once in the Premier League since April 2023.
According to club sources, Real Betis will cover at least 84% of Antony’s weekly wages, which exceed £100,000. Despite the move, Antony remains under contract with Manchester United until 2027.
“Everyone at the club wishes Antony the best during his time in Seville,” read a statement from Manchester United.
Antony initially made an impressive start under Erik ten Hag, his former manager at Ajax, scoring three goals in his first three Premier League games. However, he has struggled to justify his hefty transfer fee, and this season, his role in the squad has diminished significantly. Antony has featured in only 13 of United’s 33 matches across all competitions.
The loan to Real Betis offers Antony an opportunity for more consistent playing time and a chance to rediscover his form in Spain’s topflight.
