The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has released GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) to facilitate payments to cocoa farmers across the country, ensuring that farmers supplying cocoa through the approved purchasing system receive their dues.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 2, COCOBOD confirmed that the funds form part of efforts to settle outstanding payments owed to farmers and sustain stability within Ghana’s cocoa value chain.
According to the Board, a total of GH¢34.52 billion has already been disbursed to Licensed Buying Companies since the beginning of the 2025/26 crop season for onward payment to farmers.
Out of the latest GH¢2.6 billion release, approximately GH¢1.4 billion has been allocated specifically to clear arrears for cocoa purchased on credit.
COCOBOD stated that it is working closely with Licensed Buying Companies to ensure that all affected farmers receive their payments promptly, adding that monitoring systems have been strengthened to track the flow of funds and prevent leakages.
The Board assured farmers that no legitimate supplier of cocoa through the approved system would be denied payment, stressing its commitment to protecting farmer welfare and maintaining confidence in the industry.
It also acknowledged the patience and resilience of cocoa farmers during the payment delays and reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting the sector.
COCOBOD further urged farmers with outstanding payments to engage their respective Licensed Buying Companies while ongoing processes continue to clear all arrears.
The Board said the release of funds reflects government’s broader commitment to safeguarding the cocoa sector, strengthening the value chain, and ensuring long-term sustainability of Ghana’s key export commodity.
