Seven people are feared dead and several others injured after a violent collision involving a VVIP passenger bus and a Toyota Sienna occurred at Saka near Zebilla in the Bawku West District of Ghana’s Upper East Region on Saturday morning.
The crash reportedly happened at about 5:30 a.m. on June 13, 2026, along the busy highway linking the Upper East Region to other parts of the country.
Eyewitnesses say the VVIP bus was traveling at normal speed when it suddenly collided head-on with the Toyota Sienna under circumstances that are still unclear.
The impact of the crash was described as extremely severe, with both vehicles suffering heavy front-end damage and passengers trapped inside the wreckage.
Residents and other motorists at the scene quickly rushed to assist victims before emergency services arrived, using tools and bare hands to rescue trapped passengers.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and ambulance teams later arrived to help extricate survivors and transport the injured to the Zebilla Government Hospital.
Medical staff at the hospital confirmed that several victims were in critical condition while others sustained varying degrees of injuries including fractures and head trauma.
Police officers from the Ghana Police Service cordoned off the area to manage traffic and begin preliminary investigations into the cause of the accident.
Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the exact death toll, but multiple eyewitness accounts and early reports suggest at least seven fatalities.
Investigators are currently examining possible causes including speeding, driver fatigue, and visibility conditions at the time of the crash.
The VVIP bus company has yet to release an official statement, though relatives of passengers have begun gathering at hospitals and accident scenes seeking information.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that a full report will be released once investigations are complete and the identities of victims are properly verified.
