Thousands of commuters were left stranded for hours after heavy traffic built up along the Kasoa–Old Barrier stretch, turning what is usually a journey of less than 10 minutes into a lengthy ordeal.
The severe congestion has been linked to a combination of factors, including heavy silt accumulation along the Ataala–Old Barrier corridor, a section that is particularly prone to flooding and silt build-up during the rainy season.
The situation was further aggravated by metal scrap scattered across the road following an accident three days ago involving a vehicle transporting the materials. The debris partially blocked the roadway, significantly reducing traffic flow.
Frustrated motorists and passengers reported spending several hours in traffic as movement along the stretch became severely restricted.
Authorities have since begun clearing the accumulated silt, removing the metal debris, and filling potholes with stones in an effort to improve road conditions and restore the smooth flow of traffic.
