Aspiring constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have urged the party’s leadership to prioritise unity as preparations begin for the 2028 general elections.

The calls were made during the ongoing vetting of constituency executive aspirants, with several hopefuls stressing that internal cohesion will be key to the party’s chances of reclaiming power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking to reporters, aspiring Asawase Constituency Secretary, Mohammed Jarah, said the party urgently needs strong and unifying leadership capable of bringing members together behind a common goal.

He argued that internal divisions have negatively affected the NPP’s electoral performance in recent years and cautioned against introducing ethnic or tribal considerations into the party’s internal affairs.

“What the party needs now is a figure that will demonstrate competent leadership to bring all these personalities to rally behind one person who will emerge victorious,” he said.

Mr. Jarah also dismissed suggestions of tension between himself and former Asawase parliamentary candidate, Manaf Ibrahim, insisting he enjoys a cordial relationship with key stakeholders within the constituency.

Meanwhile, aspiring First Vice Chairman for Asawase, Matthew Amissah, described disunity as the party’s biggest challenge at the constituency level. He expressed confidence that the NPP could improve its electoral fortunes if members unite behind a common purpose.

He also claimed that the incumbent Member of Parliament and Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, continues to face growing political pressure despite remaining a formidable figure in the constituency.

Elsewhere, aspiring Constituency Secretary for Manso Adubia, Antwi Prempeh Joseph, emphasised that collaboration and discipline among party executives would be essential if the NPP hopes to return to power in 2028.

Aspiring Deputy Constituency Secretary, Eric Kyei Baffour, also called for increased youth participation in party activities, pledging to promote teamwork and strengthen grassroots mobilisation.
