Nigerian singer Lil Smart, a former artist under Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, has been arrested by the police for allegedly making false allegations against his former label boss.
He faces charges of criminal defamation, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and the dissemination of false information.
His arrest stems from accusations he made in December 2024 via his Instagram handle, @lilsmart_, where he claimed that Naira Marley and fellow musician Zinoleesky had attempted to kidnap him.
In his post, Lil Smart also alleged that if anything happened to him, Naira Marley should be held responsible. Additionally, he accused the singer of bribing law enforcement in Lagos, engaging in credit card fraud, and stealing $300 from him.
However, in a statement released by the police on Thursday, February 6, authorities revealed that Lil Smart had admitted in writing that his claims were false and lacked any supporting evidence.
His arrest followed a petition from Naira Marley’s legal team, prompting an investigation by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Unit.
On January 28, 2025, officers arrested Lil Smart at his residence in Megamound Estate, Ajah, Lagos, where they reportedly recovered evidence related to the case.
The police stressed that making false accusations could have serious repercussions, not only for those involved but also for public confidence in the justice system.
Lil Smart’s allegations initially sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some sympathized with him, others demanded proof to substantiate his claims against Naira Marley and Zinoleesky.
