Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Member of Parliament for the Karaga Constituency and former Minister for Finance, has commissioned a 6,000-capacity mosque in Tamale, marking one of the largest Islamic worship centres in Ghana.
The mosque, named Masjid Al-Noor—meaning “The Light”—has additional outdoor space capable of accommodating about 4,000 worshippers, bringing its total capacity to approximately 10,000 people.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Amin Adam announced a donation of GH¢300,000 as seed funding to support the operations and maintenance of the mosque.
“I have donated GH¢300,000 as seed money to the Masjid Al-Noor management to start the operation of the mosque,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the contractors, architects, engineers, and workers whose efforts contributed to the successful completion of the project.
“May Allah bless this mission and all who contributed to it, and may He continue to reward us all,” he added.
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who attended the ceremony, praised Dr. Amin Adam for the initiative, describing the mosque as more than just a place of worship.
“The impressive edifice is not only a place of worship; it is also envisioned as a centre for learning, research, family guidance, and community development,” Dr. Bawumia said.
He expressed confidence that the facility would help nurture and educate young people from across the country and donated GH¢200,000 to support its operations.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.
Masjid Al-Noor also includes study rooms and other facilities designed to support Islamic education and community development, reflecting its broader role beyond congregational worship.
