The Wassa Amenfi Municipal Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has urged residents displaced by recent flooding in Samreboi to remain patient and avoid returning to their homes until fumigation and safety assessments are completed.

According to NADMO, although floodwaters have largely receded, many homes remain unsafe due to contamination risks and structural damage caused by the floods.

Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy Municipal Director of NADMO, Christopher Bevel, disclosed that about 100 buildings were completely destroyed, while an additional 20 buildings suffered partial damage.

He said nearly 1,900 residents have been affected by the disaster and remain displaced as authorities continue efforts to make the area safe for habitation.

“We need to fumigate to prevent diseases. For the population which was affected by the flood, it is about 1,900 for now. Although the floodwaters have receded, the houses are currently not safe for habitation,” he said.

NADMO assured residents that safety inspections and fumigation exercises are underway to minimise the risk of disease outbreaks before affected families are allowed to return.

The flooding followed heavy rainfall that caused the Samre and Tano rivers to overflow their banks, leaving widespread destruction and displacing thousands of residents across the affected communities.
