The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong warning to final-year Senior High School students ahead of the completion of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), cautioning candidates against engaging in violence, vandalism or any form of unlawful behaviour.

The warning comes as students across the country prepare to write their final papers on Friday, June 19.

According to the Police, recent incidents involving student unrest have raised concerns, particularly in the Upper East Region where six students were arrested over separate acts of misconduct.

At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged burning of a teacher’s apartment, while four students from Bawku Senior High School were picked up for allegedly rioting, assaulting school authorities and destroying school and private property.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 18, the Police urged students to celebrate responsibly after their examinations and avoid actions that could put their future at risk.

The Service warned that offences such as arson, vandalism, assault, rioting and other criminal acts carry serious legal consequences and could undo years of hard work and academic effort.

“The Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such conduct,” the statement stressed.

The Police Service further called on parents, guardians, teachers and school authorities to work together in promoting discipline, peace and responsible behaviour among students during and after the examination period.

With thousands of candidates expected to complete their WASSCE examinations this week, the Police say maintaining law and order remains a priority and have urged students to focus on celebrating their achievements peacefully.

The Service reminded candidates that completing school should be a moment of pride and joy, not one overshadowed by arrests, criminal records or acts of destruction that could affect their future opportunities.
