Convenor of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi, has urged the Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Ghana, Rolf Olson, to take a more active role in issues surrounding accountability and the possible extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 20, Senyo Hosi said the posture of the US diplomatic mission in Ghana sends important signals about justice and anti-corruption efforts in the country.

He argued that the embassy should not appear indifferent to a matter that has attracted significant public attention, especially at a time when Ghana continues to face concerns about corruption and governance.

“You should be seen facilitating accountability in our country. Corruption has been at the heart of the failure and retrogression of our society,” he said.

He further warned that silence or perceived neutrality on such matters could be interpreted as encouraging people to escape accountability.

“It’s not about whether the person is guilty or not guilty, but you are sending a wrong signal that people can escape the boundaries of justice,” he added.

Reports indicate that Ken Ofori-Atta’s I-485 petition was approved by a US immigration court on Monday, June 15, a development that has triggered public debate in Ghana over its implications.

Senyo Hosi stressed that the issue goes beyond individuals and touches on the credibility of international cooperation in promoting good governance.

He added that diplomatic missions must be mindful of how their actions are perceived in domestic political and legal discussions.
