The update focused on efforts being made to establish and operationalise the fund, which is expected to provide greater support for researchers, scientists, academics and innovators across various sectors.
The Ghana National Research Fund is designed to create a sustainable financing mechanism for research activities, helping institutions and individuals develop solutions to national challenges through science, technology and innovation.
During the engagement, officials highlighted the importance of investing in research as a key driver of economic growth, improved public services and national development. They noted that supporting researchers will help Ghana build local capacity and reduce dependence on external solutions.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, who has consistently emphasised the role of education and knowledge development in national progress, welcomed the update and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating an environment where research and innovation can thrive.
She stressed that a strong research ecosystem is essential for addressing challenges in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, technology, climate change and industry.
The Ghana National Research Fund is expected to provide opportunities for researchers to access funding for impactful projects that can contribute to the country’s transformation agenda.
Stakeholders believe that the successful implementation of the fund will mark an important step towards building a knowledge-driven economy where ideas, discoveries and innovations can translate into practical solutions for Ghana and beyond.
