Asante Kotoko has put all football activities on hold in response to the tragic death of devoted supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
Nana Pooley, a Communications Member of the club’s Supporters’ Group, was fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants during Kotoko’s Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC at Nana Kronmansah Park in Twumasikrom.
In a statement released on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the club announced that all first-team operations would be put on hold until justice is served.
GFA and Law Enforcement Take Action
In light of the incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has postponed all Matchday 20 fixtures. Additionally, Nana Kronmansah Park has been banned indefinitely, and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against four Asante Kotoko players and six Nsoatreman FC players.
Meanwhile, the Bono Regional Police have arrested Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the owner and financier of Nsoatreman FC, along with two other suspects, as investigations into the tragic event continue.
IGP Engages Kotoko Leadership
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akufo Dampare met with Asante Kotoko’s leadership on Tuesday to discuss the incident and ensure a thorough investigation. The club remains resolute in its demand for justice as authorities work to hold those responsible accountable.
