The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has charged six individuals at the High Court in Tamale, Northern Region, over alleged payroll fraud and corruption.

The accused—Yakubu Tahidu, Abdulai Abukari Sadic, Sammy Suuk, Mohammed Yusif Jay, Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, and Osman Issahaku—are facing 17 counts of corruption-related offences for allegedly causing financial loss to the state.

According to an OSP statement, the case originated from a referral by National Security, which flagged that Yakubu Tahidu had continued receiving salaries as a teacher despite leaving the profession to work at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

The other accused individuals are alleged to have either enabled or failed to prevent the fraudulent payments.

  • Yakubu Tahidu, formerly a teacher at Balogu M/A JHS, is accused of illegally collecting salaries after moving to MASLOC.
  • Abdulai Abukari Sadic, the Yendi Municipal IPPD Coordinator, and Sammy Suuk, a Schools Improvement Support Officer, allegedly played roles in validating his salary.
  • Mohammed Yusif Jay, the former headteacher of Balogu M/A JHS, is accused of approving the payments even after being reassigned elsewhere.
  • Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, an Assistant Chief Accounts Technician at the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, is alleged to have assisted in processing the fraudulent salaries.
  • Osman Issahaku, the current headteacher of Balogu M/A JHS, reportedly continued the validation of the unauthorized payments.

The OSP has emphasized its commitment to tackling corruption and recovering funds lost through fraudulent payroll schemes as investigations continue.
