George Afriyie Pledges Full Support for Black Stars 2026 World Cup Qualification

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has vowed to do everything possible to help the Black Stars secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With Ghana failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades, the team has now shifted its attention to the crucial World Cup qualifiers, which resume next month.

Black Stars Focused on Key Qualifiers

The four-time African champions are set to take on Chad and Madagascar in their vital Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures as they push for a spot at the global tournament, set to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Having secured consecutive victories in their last qualifying matches, Ghana remains in a strong position to advance. Afriyie, in an interview with Sporty FM, reiterated his unwavering support for the team’s qualification campaign.

“I am ready to support Black Stars to qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” he stated.

He further disclosed that he has engaged Black Stars Vice Chairman, Stephen Appiah, on key strategies to aid qualification.

“I have spoken to the Vice Chairman (Stephen Appiah) on what needs to be done. Whatever I can contribute to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the World Cup, I am fully committed to it,” Afriyie added.

Ghana’s Standing in Group I

Ghana currently sits second in Group I with nine points from four matches, positioning the team well in the race for a fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.

With critical fixtures ahead, Afriyie’s support could provide an additional boost as the Black Stars fight for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
