Mahama Ayariga, Majority Leader Warns Minority Leader Over Parliamentary Conduct

In a heated session of Parliament, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga issued a stern warning to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, urging him to conduct himself appropriately in the chamber.

The tension escalated when Afenyo-Markin accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing to deliver on its election promises. His remarks did not sit well with NDC Members of Parliament, who viewed both his accusation and manner of delivery as inappropriate.

In response, Mahama Ayariga rose to challenge the Minority Leader, calling for mutual respect and decorum in the House.

“The Minority Leader must learn to behave properly in this chamber. Let’s treat each other with respect,” Ayariga stated firmly after catching the Speaker’s attention.

He criticized Afenyo-Markin’s gesticulations and pointed remarks, cautioning against inflammatory rhetoric.

“You cannot stand here, throw your hands around, and point fingers at us while accusing us of not keeping our promises. The budget has just been presented; it has not even been reviewed or approved for implementation. You cannot continue to speak as though you are superior to everyone in this chamber,” he asserted.

Concluding his remarks, Ayariga delivered a final warning: “Let this be the last time.”

The exchange underscores the growing tensions in Parliament as both sides remain divided on key national issues.
