Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler returned to action on Friday after serving a seven-game suspension, but his comeback wasn’t enough to prevent a 133-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets.

The 35-year-old Butler was sidelined by the team earlier this month for “conduct detrimental to the team” and has since requested a trade. Although the Heat initially stated they would not consider moving Butler, they later softened their stance, expressing a willingness to entertain offers for the six-time NBA All-Star.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Butler remains with the team and contributed 18 points in 33 minutes during the defeat in Florida.

Hours before the game, Butler broke his silence through a statement released on social media by his agent, Bernie O. Lee. “I’m back,” Butler declared, seemingly addressing questions about his career plans.

After the game, Butler fielded questions from reporters at his locker while sporting a number 45 Chicago Bulls jersey – a nod to Michael Jordan’s brief return from retirement.

“There’s been a lot said by everyone except me, to be honest,” Butler said of his suspension. “We’ll let people keep talking like they know everything, but sooner or later, the truth will come out.”

He added, “If I’m here, I’ll be out there playing. I don’t have a problem with my teammates. These guys are my friends. My issue has never been, and never will be, with them.”

Butler, who joined the Heat in 2019 after stints with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Philadelphia 76ers, has played 378 games for Miami.

Lakers Edge Brooklyn in a Nail-Biter

Elsewhere in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers narrowly defeated the Brooklyn Nets 102-101, overcoming the absence of star forward Anthony Davis, who sat out with a lingering foot injury.

Austin Reaves led the Lakers with a career-high 38 points, while LeBron James added 29 points and eight assists.

Despite holding a 100-92 lead with under four minutes to play, the Lakers had to fend off a late surge from the Nets. Noah Clowney’s three-pointer cut the deficit to one with 37 seconds left.

Reaves missed a crucial jumper, giving Brooklyn a chance, but former Laker D’Angelo Russell misfired on a potential game-winning three-point attempt with just three seconds remaining.

The Lakers held on for the win, improving their record despite Davis’ continued absence.
