The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed that former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is open to taking over as head coach of the German national men’s football team.

The development follows the departure of Julian Nagelsmann, who left his role after Germany’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Germany were knocked out in the Round of 32 after losing to Paraguay on penalties, ending their tournament campaign early.

In an official statement, the DFB confirmed that its leadership had agreed to terminate Nagelsmann’s contract following a recommendation from the organisation’s top management structure.

The statement further revealed that the association will now begin discussions with Klopp, who has reportedly indicated a willingness to consider the role.

“Regarding the appointment of a successor, the DFB leadership will now seek talks with Jürgen Klopp, who has already indicated his general willingness to take on the role,” the statement said.

Klopp, who left Liverpool FC two years ago after a highly successful spell, is currently working in a leadership role within the Red Bull football group.

His potential appointment has already sparked major excitement across German football, as the DFB looks to rebuild after a disappointing World Cup campaign.
