The Ghana Football Association (GFA) remains undecided on when the Ghana Premier League will resume following the tragic events during the Matchday 19 clash between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko, which resulted in the death of a supporter.
In response to the incident, the GFA suspended all Matchday 20 fixtures to allow for a comprehensive review and stakeholder engagements.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, speaking to Max FM, admitted there is no fixed timeline for the league’s return.
“We do not have a confirmed date for the resumption of the Premier League. Given the nature of the incident, a thorough evaluation is necessary, and we are in discussions with all relevant parties before making a decision,” he said.
However, he clarified that other GFA-organized competitions remain unaffected and will continue as scheduled.
“No similar incidents have been recorded in the other competitions, so they will proceed as planned, keeping in mind the overall football calendar,” he explained.
He further justified the league’s temporary suspension, emphasizing the importance of addressing all concerns before resuming.
“As the executives deliberated, we agreed that if an issue arises in the Premier League—our flagship competition—it is best to pause and put the right measures in place before moving forward,” he added.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko has announced its withdrawal from all football activities, demanding justice for their late supporter, Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during the game in Nsoatre.
