Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi is set to face trial in France after prosecutors confirmed that a rape case involving the Paris Saint-Germain defender will proceed to court.

The case relates to allegations made by a 24-year-old woman, who claims Hakimi raped her at his home in Paris in 2023. French authorities launched an investigation following the complaint, and an investigating judge later ordered that the matter proceed to trial.

Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations and maintains that he is innocent.

Reacting to the latest development, the Moroccan international broke his silence in a lengthy statement shared on social media, expressing frustration over the legal process and insisting that he has been unfairly targeted because of his public profile.

“The justice system looked me in the eye and said, ‘If you weren’t famous, there would never have been a case,'” Hakimi wrote.

He explained that he chose to remain silent throughout the investigation out of respect for the legal process and confidence that the truth would eventually emerge.

“I’ve been waiting for this trial since day one. And now I’m eagerly awaiting it. Finally, I’ll be able to speak,” he added.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for the woman who made the allegations welcomed the decision to move the case to court, saying her client feels relieved that the matter will finally be heard before a judge.

According to French media reports, Hakimi’s attempt to have the case dismissed was unsuccessful, paving the way for the trial to proceed.

A trial date has not yet been announced.

The 27-year-old defender is currently representing Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he continues to captain the Atlas Lions. However, the ongoing legal proceedings are expected to remain a major talking point as the case moves closer to court.

It is important to note that Hakimi has not been convicted of any offence and remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
