The government has imposed a curfew on several communities within the Nkwanta South Municipality following a deadly attack that claimed three lives and left nine others injured.

The curfew was announced by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, acting on the advice of the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument.

According to the directive, the curfew takes effect from Friday, June 19, 2026, and will be enforced daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

The affected communities include Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye and Nkwanta.

In a statement, the government called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups and residents to remain calm and use peaceful means to resolve their differences.

Authorities have also announced a total ban on the possession and carrying of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within the affected communities.

Security agencies warned that anyone found carrying weapons in violation of the directive will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.

The latest security measures follow a violent attack in Odomi on Thursday, June 18, which escalated tensions in the municipality and prompted immediate intervention from the government.

Three people lost their lives during the incident, while nine others sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment.

Government officials say the curfew and weapons ban are necessary steps to restore peace, protect lives and prevent further violence as security agencies work to stabilize the area.

Residents have been urged to cooperate fully with security personnel and comply with all directives to help maintain law and order in the municipality.
