The Black Stars have received a rousing welcome in Toronto ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with hundreds of Ghanaian supporters turning out to show their love and support for the national team.
The four-time African champions arrived in the Canadian city to a sea of waving Ghana flags, loud cheers and chants as excited fans gathered to welcome the players and officials.
The atmosphere was electric as members of Ghana’s diaspora community gave the team a reception that felt like home, providing a major morale boost ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Group L clash against Panama.
Several players took time to greet supporters before heading to the team’s base to continue preparations for the much-anticipated encounter.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical team are expected to supervise the Black Stars’ final training session at BMO Field, where Ghana will take on Panama in their opening game of the tournament.
With Panama considered by many as the least-fancied side in the group, Ghana will be looking to make a strong start and pick up all three points before facing tougher challenges against England and Croatia.
A victory against Panama would put the Black Stars in a strong position and boost confidence ahead of the remaining group-stage fixtures.
Despite the excitement surrounding the team’s arrival, uncertainty remains over the availability of midfielder Thomas Partey.
The experienced midfielder was unable to travel with the squad after reportedly encountering visa-related challenges. Partey is currently in Rhode Island as efforts continue to resolve the situation and facilitate his entry into Canada.
Ghanaian officials remain hopeful that a solution can be found in time for the midfielder to join his teammates in Toronto.
Meanwhile, attention in Group L will also be on the clash between England and Croatia, but for the Black Stars, the focus remains firmly on Panama.
With massive support already behind them, Ghana will be hoping to reward their fans with a winning start as they begin another journey on football’s biggest stage.
