Basketball superstar LeBron James is yet to decide his next team, with his free agency situation reportedly delaying the release of the 2026/2027 NBA season schedule.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver revealed that the league is waiting for James to make a decision because his next destination could affect key parts of the upcoming schedule, including the opening week and the highly anticipated Christmas Day games.

Speaking during an NBA offseason interview, Silver said the league needs clarity on where the four-time NBA champion will play before finalising the schedule.

“We have to finish up the schedule and where LeBron plays affects the schedule… opening week, Christmas. So I need him to make a decision,” Adam Silver said in an interview with The BoardRoom on CNBC.

The 41-year-old forward became an unrestricted free agent after completing his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers this past season.

Reports indicate that several teams are interested in signing James, including the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, and his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Miami Heat have also been mentioned as a possible destination.

James has enjoyed one of the greatest careers in NBA history, winning four NBA championships during his 23-year career.

He began his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers before moving to the Miami Heat, where he won two championships, and later returned to Cleveland to deliver the franchise its first NBA title in 2016.

The four-time NBA Most Valuable Player has spent the last eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won another championship in 2020.

As the basketball world waits for his next move, LeBron James’ decision remains one of the biggest storylines ahead of the 2026/2027 NBA season.
