The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) will begin distributing relief items to victims of the recent flooding across affected parts of the country from Saturday, July 4, as the government steps up efforts to support displaced families and communities.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, during a media briefing at the Jubilee House on Friday, July 3.

According to the Minister, the distribution forms part of the government’s ongoing response to the devastating floods that claimed lives, displaced thousands of residents, and destroyed homes and property, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.

He disclosed that emergency relief supplies have already been delivered to some of the hardest-hit communities, while the next phase of the operation will extend assistance to other flood-affected areas across the country.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu assured victims that the government remains committed to providing the necessary support as recovery and rehabilitation efforts continue.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant, follow safety advisories, and cooperate with emergency response agencies to ensure the smooth implementation of relief operations.

“As we navigate the aftermath of this disaster, we urge all citizens to remain vigilant, adhere to safety warnings and report emergencies,” he said.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rebuilding affected communities and supporting displaced families until normalcy is fully restored.

“Your government, the Mahama government, will not rest until every displaced family is housed, every district is restored, and our communities are rebuilt to be stronger and more resilient against future disasters,” he stated.

The recent heavy rains triggered widespread flooding across several parts of the Greater Accra Region, leaving a trail of destruction, displacing residents, damaging infrastructure, and prompting ongoing rescue, recovery, and relief operations by emergency agencies.
