A police officer assigned to security duties at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has reportedly been removed from an official team hotel following a viral altercation involving members of Egypt’s national team entourage.

According to Citi Sports, the incident occurred ahead of Egypt’s Round of 32 match against Australia on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 18:00 GMT.

The confrontation allegedly began when the officer stopped Egypt team manager Ibrahim Hassan from taking a photograph with a young fan. The disagreement quickly escalated into a heated verbal exchange and a brief physical skirmish.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that other members of the Egyptian team entourage, including forward Mahmoud “Trezeguet” Ibrahim Hassan, intervened to calm the situation as tensions rose.

Reports further indicate that the officer was seen reaching for his handcuffs during the confrontation before the situation was brought under control.

Following the incident, the officer was reportedly removed from the team hotel as authorities moved to de-escalate the situation.

Ibrahim Hassan, who was involved in the exchange, is a former Egypt international and the brother of national team head coach Hossam Hassan.

No official statement has yet been released by World Cup organisers or local authorities regarding disciplinary action or further investigation into the incident.
