Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has completed a loan move to AC Milan, marking the potential end of a glittering eight-year spell at the Etihad Stadium. Reports suggest the deal includes an option for Milan to make the move permanent during the summer transfer window.
Since joining City from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, the 34-year-old England international has amassed an enviable collection of silverware, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and the coveted UEFA Champions League. Walker played a crucial role in City’s historic treble-winning campaign last season, further cementing his legacy at the club.
In an emotional farewell post on Instagram, Walker reflected on his time at City, expressing gratitude to the club, his teammates, and the fans.
“Signing for this incredible club in 2017 was a dream come true,” Walker wrote. “Seven years later, winning 17 trophies, including the Champions League and the famous treble, is something I could only have dreamed of as a child. To play alongside so many top players has pushed me to be the best version of myself, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had at the Etihad.”
Walker also paid tribute to City manager Pep Guardiola, whom he credited for shaping him into the player he is today. “To Pep Guardiola, thank you for believing in me and working so hard to bring me here. Together, we’ve celebrated 17 trophies, and your guidance has been invaluable.”
He concluded his message by thanking the fans for their unwavering support and wishing them continued success.
Guardiola had previously revealed that Walker had expressed a desire to leave Manchester City in pursuit of a new challenge abroad. The defender’s move to Milan will bolster the Serie A side’s options at right-back, an area where manager Sergio Conceicao has faced struggles due to inconsistent form from Emerson Royal and Davide Calabria.
Walker’s transfer comes as a major boost for Milan, with the experienced defender expected to bring leadership and quality to the Rossoneri. Walker’s career at City began with a then-record £50 million move from Tottenham, and he departs as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
His time at City culminated in a man-of-the-match-worthy performance during the 2023 Champions League final against Inter Milan, the city rivals of his new club.
With Walker donning the iconic red and black of Milan, a new chapter begins for the seasoned right-back as he looks to make his mark in Serie A.
