The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued an official statement declaring former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted fugitive.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed that Mr. Ofori-Atta is a key suspect in multiple high-profile corruption investigations. The cases include his involvement in the National Cathedral project, dealings with Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), the termination of contracts with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Beijing Technology Limited, the procurement of ambulances, and questionable payments from the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) tax refund account.
Mr. Agyebeng shared that Ofori-Atta’s legal team has claimed the former minister is abroad seeking medical treatment and is therefore not currently in Ghana. However, the Special Prosecutor cast doubt on the authenticity of the medical documents presented, labeling them as “concocted.”
He further urged Ofori-Atta to return to the country voluntarily to face charges, warning that if he does not comply, steps for his extradition will be pursued.
“The fugitive’s name is Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta,” Agyebeng stated firmly during the press briefing.
