Ipswich Town put on a resilient display at Villa Park, securing a valuable Premier League draw against Aston Villa despite playing almost an hour with 10 men.

The first half lacked major action until Ipswich’s Axel Tuanzebe was shown a second yellow card for bringing down Jacob Ramsey on the edge of the box. The dismissal left the visitors facing an uphill battle, but they defended well and weathered Villa’s early second-half pressure.

Against the run of play, Ipswich stunned the home crowd when Liam Delap got ahead of Axel Disasi to meet Omari Hutchinson’s low cross, steering the ball into the far corner.

Villa’s frustrations grew, but they finally found a breakthrough as Ollie Watkins tapped in from close range after substitute Marcus Rashford struck the crossbar with a powerful free-kick.

Marco Asensio, one of Villa’s key February signings, squandered a golden opportunity by firing over from an excellent position before testing Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer with a stunning strike. Palmer then produced another crucial save in stoppage time, reacting superbly to a deflected Rashford cross that nearly found the net.

Despite Villa’s relentless pressure, Ipswich held on to secure a crucial point, lifting them above Leicester into 18th place on goal difference. Meanwhile, Villa’s draw sees them move up to ninth in the table.
