Dr. Jonas Kwabla Fiadzawoo, Principal of St. Vincent College of Education, has stepped down from his role, effective January 16, 2025.
In his resignation letter to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Dr. Fiadzawoo cited a lack of support from the college community as the primary reason for his decision.
He explained that recent events indicated his leadership style was not aligned with the aspirations of the institution. Acknowledging the importance of harmony within the college, Dr. Fiadzawoo emphasized the need to respect the collective views of the community to ensure progress.
He proposed that the Vice Principal take over as acting head until a new principal is appointed, expressing optimism that another leader, fully supported by the college, could achieve greater success.
“I am confident that someone else, with the full backing of the community, will achieve results that I had envisioned but could not realize,” he stated.
Dr. Fiadzawoo’s resignation comes on the heels of an incident on January 13, 2025, during which individuals claiming to represent the King of Dagbon reportedly ordered the closure of the college.

According to a summary report, the group insisted that the college adhere to the King’s recommendation for the principal position.

Staff were allegedly warned not to return to campus until the directive was obeyed, with threats issued to those who might resist.
Dr. Fiadzawoo submitted a report on the incident to GTEC on January 14, 2025, detailing the disruptions caused by the delegation’s demands.
