Kwame Agbodza, the Roads and Highways Minister-designate, has lauded President John Mahama’s determination to restrict the number of ministers in his administration to 60, including Deputy and Regional Ministers, as part of efforts to reduce unnecessary public expenditure.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee on Monday, January 20, Agbodza highlighted that the decision underscores Mahama’s commitment to fiscal discipline and efficiency.
The Adaklu lawmaker described President Mahama as a “man of his word,” noting that many had initially doubted the President would adhere to his pledge to limit the size of his cabinet.
Agbodza explained that this move aligns with Mahama’s broader vision of a leaner government that avoids wasteful spending, ensuring that resources are used more effectively.
“This decision to stick to a 60-minister limit is a clear demonstration of fiscal responsibility,” Agbodza remarked. “It’s a practical step towards cutting down waste in government expenditure and shows the President’s resolve to prioritize effective governance.”
The Minister-designate emphasized that Mahama’s approach is in line with his overarching agenda of promoting efficiency and responsible financial management within the government.
“You would be hard-pressed to find a president who would insist on such a limit for ministers, including Deputy and Regional Ministers. But President Mahama is staying true to his word,” Agbodza concluded.
