Barcelona triumphed 5-2 over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday, coming from behind after an early setback to claim their record-extending 15th title. The match saw a remarkable first-half performance from Barcelona, as they scored four goals despite having their goalkeeper sent off.
Real Madrid took the lead early in the fifth minute, with French forward Kylian Mbappe finishing a brilliant solo run by slotting the ball inside the far post. However, Barcelona responded quickly, with Lamine Yamal equalizing in the 22nd minute. Just moments later, Robert Lewandowski put Barcelona ahead with a confident penalty.
The first half continued to favor Barcelona, as Raphinha scored a sensational header in the 39th minute, meeting a precise cross from Jules Kounde. Then, in the dying moments of the first half, left-back Alejandro Balde made it 4-1 with a powerful strike into the net.
After the break, Barcelona extended their lead, with Raphinha scoring his second goal of the match, making it 5-1. However, things took a dramatic turn in the 56th minute when Barcelona’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for a foul on Mbappe. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Barcelona remained composed.
Rodrygo scored from the resulting free kick to pull one back for Real Madrid, but it was too little too late. Barcelona comfortably managed the remainder of the game with a man down to secure their historic victory.
