The Ghana Armwrestling Federation is gearing up for its annual Independence Day Armwrestling Championship, dubbed “Battle for Independence,” set to take place on March 7, 2025, in Accra.
This high-energy event will bring together Ghana’s top armwrestlers as they go head-to-head with elite competitors from neighboring countries. Athletes will compete in various weight categories, battling for medals, prizes, and ultimate bragging rights.
This year’s edition boasts an international lineup, with guest pullers from Nigeria, Benin, and Togo joining the fray. Ghana’s contingent will feature Africa’s top female armwrestler, Grace Minta, alongside other formidable athletes such as Mabel Yeboah, Daniel Acquah, Henry Otoo, Prince Affum, Charles Osei Asibey Jnr, Afia Kumah, and Issah Kunya.
Representing Nigeria will be powerhouse athletes including Sarah Matthews, Blessing Ogunbure, Olubisi Oyewusi, Mausi Zanu, Aniedu Godwin, and Chinedu Isama. Benin’s team will be led by African Games double gold medalist Marie Rose Laleye, alongside Sébastien Kpaloko and Marcel Vitchoedo. Togo will also present a strong challenge with competitors Amou Amouzou Honoré and Tchagbeleou Razak.
Ghana Armwrestling Federation President, Charles Osei Asibey, expressed excitement about the tournament, stating, “This year’s Independence Armwrestling Championship will be our biggest yet. With top-tier athletes from Ghana and across the region, fans can expect an intense and thrilling showdown.”
The Battle for Independence will be broadcast live on TV, ensuring fans across the country can witness the action in real time.
