Ghana have climbed eight places in the latest FIFA World Rankings following their opening victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, moving up to 65th in the world.
The Black Stars rose from 73rd after securing a hard-fought 1-0 win over Panama in their Group L opener, earning three crucial points in the global rankings update.
The result has given Ghana a strong start to their World Cup campaign and reflects positively on their recent performances at international level, where competitive matches carry significant ranking weight.
The team entered the tournament with a focus on rebuilding and making an impact on the global stage, and this latest jump suggests early progress in that direction.
Ghana’s ranking improvement also reinforces their status as one of Africa’s respected football nations. The Black Stars have previously reached the World Cup quarter-finals in 2010 and have featured in several editions since their debut in 2006.
Their win over Panama also showcased the team’s new generation of talent, with forward Brandon Thomas-Asante providing the assist for youngster Caleb Yirenkyi, who scored the decisive goal.
Ghana added 33.83 ranking points, taking their total to 1380.71 in the latest FIFA update.
Attention now shifts to their upcoming Group L fixtures, starting with a major clash against England on Tuesday, June 23, followed by a final group match against Croatia in Philadelphia on Saturday, June 27.
The Black Stars will be aiming to maintain momentum and push for qualification to the knockout stages.
