The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially renamed its national headquarters in honour of its founder, Jerry John Rawlings, and unveiled a bust of the late former President as part of activities marking his enduring legacy.
The ceremony, held on Monday, June 22, 2026, formed part of events commemorating what would have been Rawlings’ 79th birthday.
Organised under the theme, “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” the event celebrated the life, leadership and contributions of the late statesman to Ghana’s democratic development.
Activities began with the official renaming of the NDC headquarters after Rawlings, a move the party says is aimed at preserving the memory and ideals of the man widely regarded as the founder of the NDC and a key architect of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
The party also unveiled a bust of the late former President at the headquarters as a lasting tribute to his leadership and influence on Ghanaian politics.
Several senior party officials, supporters and dignitaries attended the ceremony, which reflected on Rawlings’ impact on Ghana’s democratic journey and his continued significance within the NDC.
President John Dramani Mahama was among the leading figures who participated in the event and paid tribute to the former leader.
Rawlings, who passed away in November 2020, remains one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s political history. He first led the country as a military ruler before overseeing the transition to constitutional democracy and later serving as Ghana’s first President under the Fourth Republic from 1993 to 2001.
The NDC says the renaming of its headquarters and the unveiling of the bust reaffirm the values, principles and vision championed by Rawlings throughout his public life.
