Tunisia’s Football Federation has officially parted ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi following the country’s disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Lamouchi, who was appointed in January this year, leaves his position after Tunisia suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the tournament.
The heavy loss added to growing concerns about the team’s form, coming just days after the Carthage Eagles were beaten 5-0 by Belgium in a pre-World Cup friendly. The back-to-back defeats mean Tunisia has conceded 10 goals in its last two matches.
Following the defeat to Sweden, Lamouchi admitted the result was painful and difficult to accept as Tunisia struggled against a dominant Swedish side.
The Tunisian Football Federation has now decided to make a change in the dugout as the team looks to revive its World Cup campaign.
Reports indicate that former Tunisia coach Mondher Kebaier is expected to take over the role. The 56-year-old previously managed the national team between 2019 and 2022 and is familiar with many of the players within the squad.
Kebaier’s expected appointment is seen as an attempt to restore confidence within the team ahead of its remaining matches at the tournament.
With Tunisia’s World Cup hopes already under pressure, attention will now shift to whether a change in leadership can inspire a turnaround and keep the Carthage Eagles’ qualification hopes alive.
