The Black Stars have received a major financial boost ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the Government of Ghana approved the release of more than GH¢76 million to support the national team’s campaign.
The funding package, announced through the Ministry of Finance, is aimed at ensuring the team is fully prepared for the tournament while also settling outstanding obligations from the World Cup qualification campaign.
In total, GH¢76,466,919.20 has been allocated to the Black Stars as Ghana seeks to provide the team with the resources needed to compete successfully at the tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
A significant portion of the allocation, amounting to GH¢58.9 million (US$5 million), has been earmarked for the team’s World Cup preparations and participation. The funds will cover key expenses including accommodation, transportation, training camps, logistics and other tournament-related activities.
The early release of the funds is expected to help the team avoid the financial challenges and distractions that have affected previous national team campaigns. Officials believe the move will allow the players and technical team to focus entirely on their performance on the pitch.
In addition to tournament expenses, the government has also released GH¢17.5 million (US$1.488 million) to settle outstanding qualification bonuses owed to players and officials.
The bonuses form part of an agreement reached during the qualification process, where only a portion of the payments was made initially, with the remainder to be paid upon successful qualification for the World Cup. Following Ghana’s qualification, the outstanding balance has now been paid in full.
With financial commitments settled and preparations fully funded, attention now turns to the Black Stars’ opening group-stage match against Panama on June 17.
Government has expressed confidence in the team and called on Ghanaians to rally behind the players as they aim to make a strong impact at the World Cup and add another memorable chapter to Ghana’s football history.
For the Black Stars, the support is now firmly in place. The focus shifts to delivering results and making the nation proud on football’s biggest stage.
