Maame Efua Houadjeto has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), taking over from Akwasi Agyeman, who resigned about a week ago.
A seasoned politician and tourism advocate, Maame Efua previously served as the Deputy Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and was the party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Mfantsiman Constituency in the 2024 elections.
The Ghana Tourism Authority operates under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, with a mandate to position Ghana as a leading sustainable tourism destination. The agency is committed to leveraging technology and ICT to drive tourism development while enforcing effective regulations and industry standards.
Key priorities for the Authority include fostering multi-agency, public-private, and stakeholder partnerships, implementing aggressive marketing strategies, and promoting investments in the tourism sector. Additionally, GTA aims to enhance industry service quality, uphold safety and health standards, and ensure greater accountability across tourism operations.
