Ofoase Ayirebi MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged the government to initiate a public inquiry into the breakdown of law and order at multiple collation centres during the 2024 general elections.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, the former Minister for Works and Housing underscored the need for a comprehensive investigation to identify the causes of these disruptions. He stressed that such an inquiry would be crucial in preventing similar incidents in future elections, particularly as the country prepares for the 2028 polls.

“Mr. Speaker, beyond the leadership’s resolution to engage the executive branch, I strongly recommend that this resolution includes a request for a full public inquiry into the circumstances that led to the breakdown of law and order at various collation centres,” he stated.

Oppong Nkrumah insisted that individuals responsible for instigating violence or interfering with the electoral process should be held accountable. He emphasized that a thorough investigation would not only clarify what transpired but also act as a deterrent against future electoral misconduct.

Additionally, he called for strengthened security measures to safeguard public institutions, election officials, and security personnel on duty during electoral processes.
