The Member of Parliament for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, has claimed that the disruptions during Thursday’s vetting session were part of a calculated move by the Minority.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the First Deputy Majority Chief Whip alleged that the Minority members on the Appointments Committee were deliberately seeking an opportunity to retaliate. She suggested that their actions stemmed from grievances over previous revelations made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh against the past government.
“We were informed that Okudzeto’s vetting would take two days and Akandoh’s a full day. The delay into the night was inconvenient for them. Had it been any other nominee, there wouldn’t have been an issue, as Parliament often works late into the night,” she explained.
Tensions flared when the Minority proposed postponing the vetting to Friday, citing concerns over the proceedings. However, the Majority rejected the request, insisting that the process continue as planned. This led to a heated confrontation, with some Minority members resorting to breaking tables and microphones in protest.
Condemning the chaos, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe criticized the disruptive behavior, urging the Minority to exercise restraint and focus on collaboration.
“They wanted to restart the vetting process with renewed energy, and that was their strategy yesterday,” she remarked.
She emphasized the need for unity, dismissing suggestions that the Majority sought to intimidate their counterparts.
“We have the numbers and can ensure our caucus stays in line. Even if someone is unwell, we will bring them to the chamber. The Minority must understand that there’s little they can do about it,” she asserted.
